JPG to WebP
Convert JPG and JPEG photos to WebP to cut page weight, improve Core Web Vitals, and serve the same picture in a noticeably smaller file.
Runs entirely in your browser. Your files never leave your device.
Smaller files for the same picture
At matched visual quality WebP files are usually a quarter to a third smaller than JPG, and on images with large areas of even colour the gap is wider still. Across a page carrying a dozen photographs that is the difference between a hero section that appears immediately and one that trickles in — which is precisely what Largest Contentful Paint measures, and what search ranking increasingly reflects.
The one thing worth understanding before you convert is that this is a lossy-to-lossy step. The JPG has already thrown detail away, and re-encoding as WebP throws a little more away on top. At the default quality of 85 that second pass is not visible at normal viewing sizes, but it does mean you should convert from the best original you have rather than from a JPG that has already been through several rounds of compression and resizing.
How to convert JPG to WebP
- 1
Add the JPG files
Drop in up to 20 photos. Batch the whole set of hero and product images in one pass.
- 2
Set the WebP quality
At the same perceived quality WebP typically lands 25 to 35 percent below JPG. Quality 80 is the usual starting point; compare against the original before committing a whole library.
- 3
Download the WebP
Serve these instead of the JPGs and the page gets lighter without any layout or markup change. Keep the JPG originals around as a fallback if you support very old clients.
