How to remove a background

Straight answer: strands are the hardest case for any automatic cutout. A clearly lit subject against a plain, contrasting background comes out clean. Flyaway hair over a busy background will show a rough or slightly chewed edge, because there is no unambiguous line to find. If you need broadcast-quality strand separation, an AI editing pass in the studio does a noticeably better job.

The tool has to get itself ready before it can touch the first pixel, and that setup only happens once. Your browser keeps it, so the second image — and every visit after today — starts immediately.

The subject keeps its original pixels. Nothing is re-encoded or compressed on the way through, and the output is a lossless PNG. The only pixels that change are the ones identified as background, which become transparent.

The soft edge is deliberate. A perfectly hard cut looks pasted on when the subject lands on a new background, and it shows every mistake as a jagged step. A one or two pixel falloff blends into whatever you place behind it.
