AVIF to JPG
Convert AVIF images to JPG so they open in any editor, office suite, or upload form — including all the ones showing you a blank thumbnail today.
Runs entirely in your browser. Your files never leave your device.
AVIF is excellent on the web and awkward everywhere else
AVIF is the newest of the web image formats and the most efficient by a clear margin, frequently half the size of a comparable JPG. Sites have started serving it by default, which means it now turns up in your downloads folder the same way WebP began to a few years ago. The difference is that AVIF support outside the browser is much thinner: many desktop editors, most office suites, and a large share of upload forms simply do not recognise the file.
Converting to JPG makes the picture usable again everywhere. Decoding happens in your browser using the same code that displayed the image on the page you took it from, so any browser that can show an AVIF can convert one. If decoding fails, that is the browser telling you it cannot read that particular AVIF profile — the file itself is fine, and a current version of Chrome, Edge, or Safari will usually handle it without complaint.
How to convert AVIF to JPG
- 1
Add the AVIF files
AVIF is the newest of the web image formats and the least widely supported outside browsers, which is why the file downloaded fine but will not open in your editor.
- 2
Choose the JPG quality
AVIF is more efficient than JPG, so the converted file will usually be larger than what you started with. That is expected, and it is the price of the compatibility you are converting for.
- 3
Download the JPG
Now it opens anywhere. Keep the AVIF for anything that is going back onto a web page — it is the better format there, just not the more portable one.
