How to upscale an image

    The image is split into overlapping 256-pixel tiles and each one is upscaled separately, so even a large photo fits in memory. Progress is shown tile by tile, and you can cancel at any point.

Exactly 4×, in both width and height — a 1000 × 800 photo becomes 4000 × 3200. That is 16 times the pixel count, which is why input is capped at 1024 × 1024.

No, and be sceptical of any tool that claims otherwise. It rebuilds plausible edges and texture from what similar photos usually look like — a very good guess, not recovered information. A face that is 12 pixels wide will not become a recognisable person, and text too small to read will not become readable.

Only a little. Upscaling works on the detail that survived in the original, so a sharp small photo improves a lot and a soft or motion-blurred one improves very little. If the original is already blurry at 100%, doubling its size mostly gives you a larger blurry photo.

Input is capped at 1024 × 1024 pixels. Above that, the browser has to run far too many tiles and hold a very large output canvas in memory, which is slow on desktops and often fails outright on phones. Resize the photo first — the free image resizer is one click away.

Two reasons. The tool has to get ready once, and it is remembered for next time. After that the speed depends on your hardware: a mid-sized photo takes seconds on a capable machine, while a slower one can take several minutes on the same work. The tile counter shows exactly where it has got to.

No, and that is the usual assumption worth correcting: "AI" here does not mean a cloud service. The enlarging happens inside your browser, on your own machine — the photo is read, enlarged, and saved without ever being transmitted. That is also why there is no queue, no credit, and no rate limit on this page.

PNG is lossless, so it does not throw away the detail that was just rebuilt. It is also four times the pixel count of the original. If you need a smaller file afterwards, run the result through the image compressor.
